DPS - IT - Enterprise Data Engineer, Junior - 0243
The Texas Department of Public Safety is seeking a Junior Enterprise Data Engineer to perform highly complex computer programming technical work for the Enterprise Data Office. The role involves building systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for data scientists and analysts, while ensuring data security and integrity.

Responsibilities
Communicate with internal and external customers to analyze and identify all relevant details of highly complex systems that involve interchange of large volumes of data (frequently stored in disparate or geographically dispersed databases)
Communicate with division or department subject matter experts, and with representatives of federal, state and various interacting agencies to analyze and identify all relevant details of highly complex systems that involve interchange of large volumes of data
Design complex tables, schemas, data marts, or related data designs that provide for effective and efficient access for data found among disparate, geographically dispersed systems such that entry, retrieval and manipulation of data may be accomplished simply from a single location while preserving data security
Create, maintain, and manage data asset catalogs and complete inventory of organizational data
Provide colleagues the opportunity to examine, analyze and contribute to the refining of the designed input and output of refined data
Present training sessions for colleagues as appropriate to accomplish scheduled development, testing, implementation, and utilization of the developed system(s)
Develop appropriate documentation and ensure established standards and best practices are applied at all stages of the development process
Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma/equivalent is required
Minimum of four (4) years' experience writing SQL and accessing data stored in databases such as SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle databases is required
Familiarity with database fundamentals such as snowflake schema, normalized/denormalized data is required
Minimum of two (2) years designing databases is required
Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence
Must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role
Must not be employed by nor have any connection or continuous connections to any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4
Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures
Able to develop plans, policies, and procedures for efficient workflow and overall effectiveness

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information
Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices
Availability for after-hours, weekend work, emergencies, and off-site training is required
Preferred
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Computer Science, Statistics, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Sciences Technology (IST), Information Technology, or a related field is preferred
Experience creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models for databases, data warehouses, and big data platforms
Considerable knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Extensive knowledge of database concepts and relational database management systems such as DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle
Considerable skill in the use of SQL as a tool for retrieving, updating, inserting, deleting, manipulating, and managing data stored in enterprise databases
Ability to work within an agile development cycle
Experience with Snowflake or similar platform is preferred
Experience working with ETL tools such as AWS DMS
An understanding of AWS Cloud technologies preferred
Skill in oral and written communication in technical and non-technical terminology
