Controls Engineer

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Controls Engineer to provide Engineering Controls support to all utility operating units of the University. The role involves developing control systems, programming PLCs and SCADA systems, and collaborating with engineers and technicians to ensure system stability and compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Developing control systems and strategies for industrial applications
Performing system and network calculations to ensure stability and reliability
Programming and implementing PLCs, SCADA systems, and DCS systems
Collaborating with other engineers, technicians, and clients to discuss and solve problems related to the system
Developing and maintaining system documentation, including functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and operational manuals
Integrating different components of a control system, including controllers, sensors, and actuators
Assessing and upgrading existing control systems as required
Providing technical support to the Controls Supervisor and the assigned technicians
Ensuring all Penn State, regulatory, and safety requirements are met
Staying updated with the latest control systems technologies and industry trends
Performing design reviews and maintaining the Design and Construction Standards
Specifying, testing, and implementing steam plant generator control systems, black start procedure, and island mode automation
Assisting with the integration of all utilities into a centralized control room
Supporting electrical utility engineering for new construction, power system analysis, and distribution planning

Required

Bachelor's Degree
6+ years of relevant experience (if filled as Operations Engineer - Senior Professional)
3+ years of relevant experience (if filled as Operations Engineer - Advanced Professional)
Valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check
