Land Survey Technician (CST Level II)
NEOGOV is seeking a skilled Land Survey Technician to join the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. In this role, you will perform advanced land survey work, operate surveying instruments, and provide training and support to field crews, contributing to essential public infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
Work on land survey field crew setting up, operating, and adjusting a total station and field data collector equipment to establish transit line, control line, and property survey line
Measure angles for curves, control line, traverses, closures, and property surveys
Operate level to establish precise benchmark circuit, profile, cross sections, contour grids and grades
Adjust and maintain instruments
Give survey alignment to the survey party worker using tract maps, city and county maps, and field books
Calculate elevation, curves, grades and distance
Record all topography locations
Use pipe and metal locator
Set up blowers and other safety equipment
Enter sewer manholes and structures to obtain invert elevation, size, material and center line of pipe
Assume duties of leadership of crew during periods of absence of crew leader
Analyzes data from field crews and provides technical support and training to field crews
Coordinates survey projects for efficiency
Operate instruments used in survey work with full technical expertise
Use and instruct others in the use and care of electronic, digital survey equipment
Qualification
Required
Valid California Class C driver license
Option 1: Two (2) years of experience with the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County performing duties of a Survey Party Worker II
Option 2: Three (3) years of experience operating a variety of digital survey equipment
Knowledge of: Algebra, geometry, trigonometry
Knowledge of: Principles, methods, and techniques of surveying and drafting
Ability to: Operate surveying equipment
Ability to: Make complex mathematical calculations involving geodetics
Ability to: Prepare drawings from field survey notes
Ability to: Prepare, review and maintain field survey notes
Ability to: Lift heavy objects
Ability to: Train survey crew members
Ability to: Coordinate survey projects to eliminate duplication
Preferred
Selected candidate may be required to obtain an FAA Pt. 107 Remote Pilot Certificate to operate an unmanned aerial drone within six (6) months of appointment

CALPERS: The Districts belong to the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), and all monthly status new hires will be enrolled in CalPERS.
HEALTH INSURANCE: MEDICAL: Districts paid. Employees may choose from several HMO and Indemnity plans. As of January 1, 2026, the Districts contribute $2,417.99 per month for medical insurance.
DENTAL: Districts paid. Employees can choose from prepaid and indemnity dental plans. The Districts pay the full premium for employee and dependent coverage.
VISION: Employee paid.
LIFE: The Districts pay for a term life policy.
VACATION: Employees receive 88 hours of paid vacation after one full year of service, increasing up to 128 hours per year after five years, 168 hours per year after 15 years and up to 208 hours after 25 years.
SICK LEAVE: Eight hours of full-pay sick leave per month.
PERSONAL LEAVE: Employees may use up to 24 hours per calendar year from current sick leave for personal reasons.
PAID PARENTAL LEAVE: Employees may use up to 80 hours of paid parental leave for each birth, foster placement and/or adoption.
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays and one-half paid holiday depending on the employee's work schedule.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: Employees may be eligible for tuition reimbursement for approved accredited course work.
STUDENT LOAN PAYMENT REIMBURSEMENT: For some bargaining units, the Districts will provide student loan payment reimbursements for principal or interest paid by the employee on a qualified education loan incurred by the employee for the education of the employee.
