Responsibilities

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs
Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis
Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications

Required

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
US Citizenship Required for this Position
Clearance Required: Yes - Interim Clearance Required To Start
Travel Requirement: Yes, up to 10% of the time

Preferred

Be able to apply extensive technical expertise, and have full knowledge of submarine structures
Be able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings
Have a working knowledge of shipyard operations, including structural fabrication and assembly and final outfitting
Demonstrated history of collaborative relationships with both internal and external customers achieved through strong interpersonal, organization, and communication skills
Specific knowledge of SUBSAFE requirements is preferred
Experience within submarine engineering as well as submarine construction processes
Experience with pressure hull dimension/measurement requirements
Familiarity of Tech Pub 1688
Be a strong and proactive mentor for junior engineers, aiding them in development and professional growth
