Economist - Research Data Analyst I

The California Department of Finance is seeking a Research Data Analyst I within the Economic Research Unit, responsible for California's official economic forecasts. The role involves analyzing economic impacts of policies, providing updates to the executive team, and maintaining the Economic Research Unit's database.

Responsibilities

Assist the Economic Research Unit (ERU) with producing the official economic forecasts for California
Analyze the economic impact of various enacted and proposed policies
Provide weekly updates to the Executive team on economic data and information that may impact the state’s economy and/or the state budget
Assist Research Data Specialists with reviewing regulatory impacts from California agencies and conducting economic research and data analysis support as needed
Assist the team in maintaining the Economic Research Unit’s database and charts used for publication of various macroeconomic indicators monitored by the unit, including labor market, personal income, housing, and inflation data

Required

12 semester or 18 quarter units course work in any combination of a data driven research-related field, such as economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, demography, geography, anthropology, statistics, data science or a research-related field. This must include at least one course in statistical methods
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree
Work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis by applicants who have the required units mentioned above
A Master's Degree in economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, demography, geography, anthropology, statistics, data science or a related research-oriented field may be substituted for two years of the required experience
A doctoral degree in the same areas may be substituted for three years of the required experience
