Responsibilities

Supporting the development of actinide processing capability at PNNL
Broadening laboratory experiences as interest and project availability provide
Working effectively with an interdisciplinary team of researchers

Required

Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college
Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required

Preferred

Pursuing a PhD degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline
Demonstrates high competency in metallography including best practices for cutting and polishing
Possesses strong knowledge in several metal characterization methods including: visible-light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, electron back-scattered diffraction, x-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy, focused ion beam microscopy, and atom probe tomography
Detailed comprehension of physical metallurgy
The ideal candidate is safety-oriented, possesses good written and oral communication skills, and has demonstrated an ability to collaborate effectively
Preferred candidates will have a strong track record of demonstrating initiative, problem-solving, independent execution of routine research tasks, and ability to learn new concepts and research
