Applied AI Intern, Innovators Lab
Community Innovations Foundation is seeking a part-time Applied AI Intern to help build a platform that supports small businesses and nonprofits with AI workflows. The intern will prototype, test, and iterate on agent behaviors and user experience to deliver functional products outside of demos.
Computer Software
Responsibilities
Design and prototype agentic workflows (task planning, tool calling, memory, guardrails, error handling)
Build and iterate on AI product features (idea → prototype → user feedback → improvement)
Integrate LLMs with tools/APIs (docs, forms, web research, scheduling, email-like flows, lightweight CRM workflows)
Create evaluation approaches (test cases, regression prompts, lightweight metrics) to improve reliability
Document decisions and ship weekly improvements in a fast-moving environment
Qualification
Required
Comfortable shipping prototypes quickly (Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript)
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Experience with LLM tooling (agents, function calling/tool use, RAG, evals), automation, UX, or product development
Benefits
Mentorship from both academia and industry (technical guidance + product thinking)
A chance to build a portfolio-worthy agentic app with real users and real constraints
Exposure to end-to-end product building: user needs → experiments → shipping → iteration
Opportunities to publish/build in public (optional): demos, case studies, write-ups
Potential pathway to a longer-term role (intern extension and/or potential full-time consideration based on funding and performance)
