DATA INTERN (ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN)

The City of Long Beach is currently recruiting for a Data Intern (Administrative Intern) to join the Systems Management Division. This role involves analyzing, manipulating, and visualizing data to support the City’s HRMS and enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with the HR Systems Management Manager & Officer to manage day-to-day tasks and contribute to the division's operational efficiency
Contribute to diverse projects by conducting research, surveys, and presentations centered around HR Systems
Assist in data analysis projects aimed at uncovering trends and patterns that inform decision-making
Offer valuable support to staff by producing a diverse array of reports through proficient use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
Aid in the preparation of memorandums and presentation, contributing to the bureau's communication and documentation efforts with both internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate actively with staff members on ongoing projects, providing assistance and ensuring successful project outcomes
Creates and maintain documentation of processes, enhancing clarity and accessibility. Providing recommendations for business process improvement when necessary
Maintain and update the Bureau’s project roadmap. Track project progress along with due dates assigned to deliverables
Attend meetings, actively participate by offering insights, recording minutes, and providing valuable input
Assists in identifying the latest trends in HR systems, ensuring the bureau remains current and forward-looking
Responds to inquiries from the public, vendors, and outside agencies
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a major in public administration, political science, business administration, human resources management, or related fields from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required)
Recently graduated from an undergraduate program (within one year of application submission) from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required)

Preferred

Has developed technical skills, including extracting data from various types of databases, inspecting data, and detecting missing or anomalous data using analytical and/or visual methods
Possesses strong organizational and time management skills
Experience in spreadsheet software such as Excel and Sheets
Ability to manipulate and interpret information from datasets
Has a desire to learn about data practices within a local government environment to support long-range planning and research for a large city
Experience working in Human Resources
Strong work ethic and attendance record
Attention to detail and the ability to maintain professional work relationships
Ability to work independently within a fast-paced team environment with shared accountability
