Teen Services Coordinator

Dakota County Library is seeking an energetic and community-oriented Teen Services Coordinator at the Wentworth Library in West St Paul, Minnesota. This role is responsible for developing and delivering quality services for teens and families, while advocating for youth needs and creating educational and recreational programming.

Responsibilities

Provide friendly and approachable customer service
Connect customers with library services and resources
Assist customers with library technology
Contribute to maintenance of books and materials for youth in the library location
Actively contribute to creating a welcoming and beneficial library environment for youth and families
Use, model, and share with colleagues' strong practices for working with teens
Actively solicit youth voice and collaboration to inform goals and direction for youth services and events
Plan and deliver a wide array of program offerings responsive to the needs of a diverse community
Stay attuned to evolving teen interests and trends and effectively use those trends in library services
Collaborate with youth services colleagues to identify opportunities and best practices around Teen Services
Utilize formal and informal evaluation tools to inform program development
Identify, build, and maintain connections to community groups and individuals to expand and promote library services
Collaborate with area schools and other youth-serving organizations
Maintain awareness of available community resources to serve library users with a range of needs
Other specialized duties as needed for the operation of the library

Required

Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, social science, human services or a related field AND two (2) years of experience working in youth, teen, or family programming
OR
Associate's degree AND four (4) years of work experience directly working with youth, youth engagement, service development, or youth programming and events
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience to total six years. Work experience must be directly related to youth, youth engagement, service development, or youth programming and events
Strong cultural competency skills
Ability to advocate for the interests and needs of teens in the community
Anti-racist and asset-based approach to teen services built on knowledge of youth development and factors that influence the behaviors of youth
Ability to proactively use developmentally appropriate behavior management skills
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others
Knowledge of community resources and needs
Ability to meaningfully collaborate, partner, and negotiate with community leaders and organizations
Ability to provide promotion and support for library programs, materials, and services among members of diverse community groups
Ability to effectively work with the general public using strong verbal and written customer service skills

Preferred

Experience working with diverse populations
Bilingual skills in Spanish/English or English and another language
