Responsibilities
You will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the evaluation of materials, process and manufacturing efforts related to materials and processes used for materials protection
You will provide technical leadership for the planning, organizing, performing and documenting activities associated with development and application of materials and processes used for materials protection on all aircraft acquisition programs
You will research and study the structures and chemical properties of various natural and synthetic or composite materials, including metals, alloys, rubber, ceramics, semiconductors, polymers, and glass
You will determine ways to strengthen or combine materials or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in a variety of products and applications
You will represent NAVAIR as a master of corrosion prevention and control at meetings and conferences with contractors and other Government activities by reviewing designs, test plans, materials development data, and specifications

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes
You will be required to obtain and maintain any required certification and/or license as a condition of employment
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band DP-04 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
Leadership and Conflict Management skills are highly desired
Ability to effectively communicate with others, knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and prevention and naval aviation systems acquisition
Ability to lead a dispersed, multi-disciplinary team chartered with enhancing US Naval Aviation readiness through proactive measures to reduce corrosion related maintenance and failure modes
Position requires excellent written and oral communication skills in addition to advanced problem solving skills
Must have specialized corrosion experience, specifically material science, prior fleet maintainer, or RCM, is required
Technical experience in materials science, specifically in the area of corrosion prevention is highly desired
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual
For Series 1320 - Chemist: Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics
For Series 0806 Materials Engineer: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree
Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico
Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board
Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering
Preferred
Leadership and Conflict Management skills are highly desired
Technical experience in materials science, specifically in the area of corrosion prevention is highly desired
