Systems Engineer - Space & Missile Defense Tracking (All Levels)

Responsibilities

Perform systems engineering and algorithm development tasks supporting space and missile defense tracking missions
Design and implement advanced object tracking and state estimation algorithms, including track initiation, maintenance, correlation, and termination
Develop and evaluate multi-target tracking and multi-sensor fusion approaches for EO/IR, RF, or hybrid sensor architectures
Apply and refine data association techniques, such as: Nearest neighbor and probabilistic association, Joint Probabilistic Data Association (JPDA), Multiple Hypothesis Tracking (MHT), Track-to-track fusion methods
Develop signal processing algorithms supporting detection, feature extraction, and measurement generation from sensor data
Support algorithm integration with guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) and fire-control–relevant tracking architectures
Conduct performance analysis, trade studies, and simulation-based assessments of tracking robustness under challenging conditions (maneuvering targets, clutter, countermeasures, degraded sensing)
Collaborate with software, systems, and test teams to transition algorithms from prototype to operational implementation
Develop and execute modeling, simulation, and test workflows, including Monte Carlo analysis, recorded sensor playback, and hardware-in-the-loop environments
Support requirements decomposition, traceability, and verification planning for tracking algorithm performance
Prepare technical documentation and briefings for design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and customer engagements

Required

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field. (or equivalent practical experience)
Experience designing, implementing, and testing signal processing algorithms for EO/IR or similar sensing modalities
Solid understanding of EO/IR sensor phenomenology, including noise characteristics, resolution limits, and environmental effects
Hands-on experience developing algorithms for sensor tracking, including target detection, track initiation, maintenance, and termination
Strong theoretical and practical experience with state estimation techniques, including: Kalman Filters (EKF, UKF), Multi-target tracking concepts, Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) filters
Proficiency in algorithm development using MATLAB and/or Python, with experience transitioning algorithms to C/C++ or other production environments
Experience validating and testing algorithms using simulated data, recorded sensor data, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or system-level test environments
Demonstrated experience working within the systems engineering design cycle, including: Requirements decomposition and traceability, Algorithm design and trade studies, Verification and validation (V&V), Documentation and design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR)
Ability to work collaboratively with systems engineers, software engineers, and test teams to integrate algorithms into operational systems
US citizenship required, with eligibility to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance

Preferred

Active Secret or Top-Secret clearance
0–3 years of experience for entry-level, 4–8 for mid-level, or 8+ for senior-level candidates
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
Experience in one or more of the following domains: Missile defense or space systems, EO/IR or RF sensors, Kill vehicles, interceptors, or countermeasures
Familiarity with real-time constraints and embedded or real-time operating systems
Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or DOORS
Demonstrated experience leading trade studies, performance modeling, or data analysis
