5+ years expR & S Northeast is seeking a SQL Database Administrator (DBA) responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and availability of the organization’s SQL database environments. The role involves managing database design, implementation, monitoring, backup, recovery, and optimization to support critical business applications and reporting needs.

Responsibilities
Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server database environments across development, test, and production systems
Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and proactively tune queries, indexes, and storage to optimize system efficiency
Design and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity
Implement and manage database security, including access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance with data protection standards
Support application development teams by reviewing database designs, optimizing queries, and assisting with deployments and upgrades
Manage database capacity planning, growth forecasting, and resource utilization
Develop and maintain documentation for database architecture, standards, procedures, and operational runbooks
Participate in system audits, risk assessments, and compliance initiatives (e.g., SOX, data governance, security controls)
Perform root cause analysis for database-related incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions
Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to ensure databases are aligned with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity standards
Provide on-call or after-hours support as required for system maintenance or critical incidents
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
5+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases in enterprise environments
Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization
Experience with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering)
Proficiency in T-SQL scripting and database automation
Solid understanding of database security best practices and role-based access controls
Experience supporting mission-critical systems with high availability and uptime requirements
Preferred
Experience with cloud-based database environments (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS)
Familiarity with ETL processes, reporting tools, and data warehousing concepts
Experience in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., SOX, healthcare, government)
Microsoft SQL Server certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, or equivalent)
Knowledge of PowerShell or other automation tools
