Engineer I, Product Development- Electronics

The Product Development Engineer I supports the rapid development of innovative household appliances by delivering electronic hardware design expertise, focusing on schematics, PCB design, and system integration to improve performance and safety.

Responsibilities

Design and review schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and documentation for electronic components, modules, and appliance electrical systems per the BSH Product Development Process (PDP)
Select electronic components; perform derating, worst-case circuit analysis, tolerance analysis, and component lifecycle/obsolescence reviews
Support product quality and electrical safety; ensure compliance with internal guidelines and applicable standards (e.g., UL/CSA/IEC for electrical safety; EMC/FCC where applicable)
Plan and execute lab testing of appliances and electronic subassemblies for electrical performance (e.g., power, efficiency, signal integrity), safety (e.g., dielectric/hipot, leakage, ground continuity, thermal), reliability (e.g., life testing, environmental stress), and EMC (radiated/conducted emissions and immunity) per test plans; document and communicate results
Design for manufacturability, assembly, and test (DFM/DFA/DFT) for PCBAs, harnesses, and electrical modules; define test points and support ICT/functional test development
Prepare and implement Engineering Change Requests (ECRs/ECOs); support part release and configuration management in PLM/ERP
Participate in design and project reviews; drive corrective and preventive actions based on test findings and field feedback
Support PCBA builds and electrical integration through pre-pilot, pilot, launch, and ongoing production; assist with end-of-line testers and failure analysis
Develop and maintain timelines for assigned electrical tasks/sub-projects aligned with PDP milestones
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, compliance, manufacturing, quality, sourcing) to meet requirements and resolve issues
Perform all other duties as assigned

Required

Four-year College Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, or similar – Required
Years experience in Electronics, Computer Science or similar - Required
Experience with ECAD tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad, Eagle) for schematic capture and PCB layout review
Hands-on lab skills using oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs; basic soldering/rework and debug
Strong teamwork and communication; ability to work effectively with guidance in a cross-functional environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
Test automation and data analysis skills (e.g., Python, C#)
Embedded Linux familiarity and/or microcontroller-based system integration
Experience with EMC compliance testing and mitigation techniques
Experience with SAP or similar ERP/PLM tools
Knowledge of FMEA, DFM/DFA/DFT, Design for Reliability (DfR), risk management, and target costing
Ability to interpret and apply industry standards (UL/CSA/IEC, EMC/FCC) and internal norms
Experience in an electrical test lab environment
