Data Scientist (Recent Graduate)

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is seeking a recent graduate to join their team as a Data Scientist in the Enterprise Data Architecture Division (EDAD). The role involves conducting data analysis, applying innovative approaches to data mining, and supporting senior Data Scientists in developing policies and standards for data science activities.

Responsibilities

Providing support conducting data analysis of design algorithms to extract meaningful insights
Assisting with applying creative and innovative approaches to perform data mining and discover new patterns from large datasets
Supporting senior Data Scientist with developing policies, and standards for data science activities and applications
Participating in utilizing diverse analytical and assessment methods and tools to produce comprehensive findings and actionable recommendations

Required

Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a bachelor's or graduate degree
Veterans who have completed a bachelor's or graduate degree and were unable to apply within two years of obtaining their degree due to a uniformed service obligation of at least 4 years, may apply within two years of their discharge from uniformed service
A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience
GS-09: Experience with statistical concepts and data analysis
GS-09: Experience with programming languages (ex., Python, R, SQL)
GS-09: Experience with data collections and basic visualization techniques
GS-09: EDUCATION: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree
GS-09: A combination of education and experience
GS-11: Experience performing basic statistical analysis and data interpretation
GS-11: Experience in statistical software and programming languages for data analysis
GS-11: Experience working with databases and creating data visualizations/reports
GS-11: EDUCATION: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
