Supervisory Firefighter (Basic Life Support/ Hazardous Materials Technician)

Responsibilities
Serves as a Station Captain in a remote location to provide lead and non-supervisory station personnel with basic supervision, and to provide quality structural and small aircraft firefighting
Conducts structural and small aircraft/helicopter firefighting activities on assigned shift
Plans and schedules firefighting equipment and crews including 3-4 major pieces of firefighting equipment and from 4-50 firefighters
Exercises supervision over subordinates in actual firefighting activities, to the HAZMAT Response Team
Plans work schedules and sequence of operations to meet general schedules, priorities, and requirements established by "Assistant Chief
Informs employees on management policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to the station
Responds to the presence or potential release of hazardous materials to include CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives)
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S
One year of specialized experience defined as serving as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or government fire department or brigade; participating in controlling and extinguishing structural fires; conducting fire rescue operations for an organization; identifying and eliminating potential fire hazards; operating fire communications equipment; and assisting in delivering fire protection and prevention training

Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
