SDET Tech Lead Manager

Responsibilities
Architect & Mature Quality Frameworks: Take ownership of our Playwright (E2E), Integration, and Unit testing suites. Mature these from "functional coverage" to "professional grade" codebases that the whole engineering org actively contributes to
Own the Release Train: Direct the orchestration of deployments via Azure DevOps. You are the "Conductor" responsible for the technical gates, release branching strategies, and the final "Go/No-Go" for production pushes
Drive "Shift-Left" Initiatives: Work alongside Backend and Frontend teams to streamline integration-level testing into the local development loop, catching regressions before they ever hit a PR
Manage & Mentor: Lead a small, high-impact Quality team (2-3). You'll handle 1:1s and career growth, but you'll also lead by example in the code by performing deep code reviews and solving complex infrastructure/flakiness issues
Infrastructure as Code & CI/CD: Maintain and optimize Azure DevOps YAML pipelines. Ensure our build/test/deploy cycles are fast, parallelized, and provide immediate feedback to developers
Performance & Reliability: Beyond functional testing, you will own the strategy for monitoring and reliability, ensuring our Next.js frontend and .NET services meet performance benchmarks in Azure
Strategic Collaboration: Act as the technical peer to Frontend/Backend Principals and Engineering Managers. Participate in design docs to ensure new features are architected for testability from day one
Qualification
Required
8+ Years in Software/Quality Engineering: You have a 'trench-hardened' background as an SDET or SWE. You aren't just a tool user; you are a framework builder
2+ Years Leadership Experience: Proven experience leading technical projects or managing a small engineering team. You know how to balance 'doing' with 'delegating.'
Stack Knowledge: Production-level experience with .NET/C# (or similar language/framework) and TypeScript (React/Next.js) (or similar language/framework). You must be able to read and write production code in the same languages as our feature teams
Automation Mastery: Expert-level experience with Playwright, nunit/xunit, vitest, Jest, Cypress, or similar frameworks. You understand how to handle complex authentication flows, state management, and async patterns in test code
Azure & DevOps Expert: High proficiency in Azure DevOps, including YAML pipelines, environment management, and release gates
Advanced Testing Patterns: Practical experience using TestContainers or similar for integration testing and a deep understanding of the 'Testing Pyramid.'
Operational Ownership: You have managed production release cycles and feel comfortable being the final point of accountability for deployment stability
Preferred
Load & Performance Testing: Experience with k6, JMeter, or similar tools integrated into CI/CD
Azure Infrastructure: Familiarity with Bicep, Terraform, or Azure CLI for managing test environments
Contract Testing: Exposure to Pact or similar frameworks for microservices validation
Security Expertise: Experience with compliance and security frameworks and standards such as OWASP, NIST, FERPA, SOC-2, etc
