Responsibilities

Prioritize Safety: Demonstrate a personal commitment to laboratory safety by adhering to Novelis safety rules and processes, ensuring safety remains the top priority
Support Product and Process Development: Contribute to the development of aluminum flat-rolled products by optimizing processes such as ingot homogenization, hot and cold rolling, heat treatment, and quenching to optimize microstructures for specific properties and performance metrics
Assist Alloy Development: Learn and apply advanced material characterization techniques to support alloy development activities
Manage Priorities: Independently balance multiple work streams supporting project leaders to meet deadlines and deliverables
Implement laboratory and pilot-scale plans to support development activities and assist plant-scale trials to ensure operational readiness for new products and processes
Collaborate Across Teams: Work seamlessly with metallurgy and laboratory teams
Perform Experiments and Investigations: Plan, implement, submit LIMS requests, compile results from experiments, plant trials, and product performance investigations for research projects
Drive Innovation: Create intellectual property to differentiate Novelis from competitors and maintain its leadership position
Enhance R&D Capabilities: Contribute to improving methods, techniques, equipment, and quality within the R&D organization

Required

Bachelor's degree in Materials Science (Metallurgy) or Mechanical Engineering
A passion for research and development in aluminum flat-rolled products and processes
Hands-on experience designing and driving experimental test plans
Familiarity with sheet metal processing techniques
Metallurgical characterization and qualification testing skills - Knowledge of computer-aided design and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, SolidWorks) and a desire to master CALPHAD software packages (e.g., Thermo-Calc, JMatPro, FactSage, Pandat)
Understanding of project management principles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
