Testing Engineer - Military Engines
Rolls-Royce Power Systems is a global leader in power solutions, and they are seeking a Testing Engineer for Military Engines. The role involves supporting diesel engine development and troubleshooting, while working closely with customers and various engineering teams.

Responsibilities
Support, prepare and perform diesel engine development, calibration and engineering support work in an engine dynamometer test cell, on HiL/MiL systems and if necessary, in the field
Prepare, support and perform commissioning of prototype engines/vehicles and early production units together with the customer and their sub-contractors with regards to our scope for applications including but not limited to wheeled/tracked military vehicles, mining equipment, marine, rail, and oil and gas
Support customers in case of irregularities
Support and troubleshoot field failures
Facilitate communication between customer and different engineering groups
Ability to read and understand controller wiring diagrams and integration including ability to make custom harnesses for vehicle and test benches
Experience at CAN-Bus troubleshooting and monitoring
Provide field support for After Sales and Applications departments whenever complex issues require engineering support
Communicate and consult with Engineering and Design departments worldwide
Provide support for production and train production staff whenever complex issues require engineering support
Maintains daily record of work hours by job number for budgeting & auditing purposes
Document the preparation, execution and analysis of tasks performed according to engineering standards
Manage, track and communicate project status and assist in managing project budget and project forecast
Mentor and train less experienced engineers
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Promote a compliance culture and live the latter and the spirit of the Rolls Royce Code of Conduct
Perform special projects as required
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Automotive Engineering and 3 years of engineering experience testing combustion engines in a dynamometer test cell and in the field; or 7 years of engineering experience testing combustion engines in a dynamometer test cell and in the field

Preferred
Strong knowledge of the principles and complete operation of internal combustion engines and diesel engine technology
Experience diagnosing diesel engines in test cells and installed in a vehicle
Experience with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components of diesel engines
Good knowledge of engine control units and their operation
Good knowledge of using a Computer, Copier, Phone, Cell Phone, Fax
Experience with engine-specific instrumentation, data acquisition systems, signal processing and data management
Strong skills in the use of measurement and testing tools for mechanical and electrical systems
Strong knowledge in the physical properties of fuels, coolants, lubricants and oils
Good project management skills
Good organizational, planning and follow-up skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong work and time management skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to bend down, stand over, lay down and complete work tasks within the tight confines typical of marine engine compartments and/or engine rooms for long periods of time
Ability to lift, push, pull weights in the 20-60 lb range
Must be available to work flexible hours including night shifts and weekends
U.S. Citizenship required as this position occasionally will be working under a government contract
Ability to travel 50-80% on short notice domestic and international
Strong ability to adapt to new circumstances quickly
Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical engineering or related field
Knowledge of MTU, Daimler, and Detroit Diesel Controllers
Experience with ETAS INCA, MTU Diasys and Xentry
Knowledge of test cell automation systems
Experience working with authorities/military customers
MTU product knowledge
Experience in operating fork lift trucks
Experience in rigging of weights up to 1 ton
Strong knowledge, experience and skills in installing and repairing diesel engines – especially in confined spaces
Proven ability to operate machine shop equipment used for fabricating test parts and equipment
Strong skills in the use of mechanical and electrical hand tools
