The role involves designing, prototyping, and testing new knife mechanisms while ensuring manufacturability and collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities
Designing, prototyping, and testing new knife mechanisms, components and assemblies
Create concepts from napkin sketch form to 3D models and detailed drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks primarily, but knowledge of Mastercam is a plus)
Collaborate with the R&D team to communicate new concepts as they build, test, and troubleshoot prototypes
Generate Bill of Materials, engineering change orders (ECOs), and technical specifications
Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability (DFM) by collaborating with production teams regarding machining, heat treating, molding, and assembly processes
Manage project timelines and priorities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and prepare technical documentation
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
10+ years of experience in mechanical design for complex products in a manufacturing environment
Hands-on experience in product development, prototyping, and verification testing
Strong skills in CAD tools (SolidWorks required)
Strong understanding of engineering principles including mechanics, materials science (metals, plastics, composites), manufacturing methods, and kinematics
Strong analytical abilities to diagnose and fix design issues
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across multidisciplinary teams and vendors
Preferred
Experience with creation of consumer products
MasterCam experience (3 years preferred)
CNC milling machine experience (3 years preferred)
Background in CNC machining
