Process Controls Engineer

Responsibilities
Read client / engineer specifications and adapt our OEM systems accordingly
Develop control strategies, functional specifications, and control narratives
Configure and program PLCs, some SCADA, and work with clients/engineers in developing interface to our OEM systems
Develop required documentation to assist technical documentation team with key system information
Specify, calibrate, and troubleshoot field instruments (pressure, flow, level, analyzers, etc.)
Design and support industrial networks and protocols and databases
Perform advanced control and root-cause analysis to improve throughput, quality, and energy efficiency
Analyze process data, KPIs, and trends to drive continuous improvement
Monitor continued performance
Ensure compliance with relevant codes/standards and site environmental, safety and health policies
Apply industrial cybersecurity best practices, manage access, patching, and system backups
Maintain documentation, change control, versioning, and configuration management across control assets
Plan and execute startup/commissioning
Provide on‑call support, troubleshoot downtime events, and implement corrective/preventive actions
Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, and IT/OT teams; support training and handover
Manage vendors/integrators; contribute to project schedules, budgets, and risk assessments
Qualification
Required
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Controls/Automation Engineering required
Experience: Three to five years of experience in plant/industrial process control (continuous or batch) required
Hands-on PLC programming (Allen-Bradley MicroLogix, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix) and development experience also required
Knowledge: Strong knowledge of instrumentation, basic electrical operations, control loops, and industrial networking required
Working understanding and application of root‑cause analysis methodologies
Skills: Technical rigor, systems thinking, and attention to detail
Proven troubleshooting skills
Strong communication and documentation skills
Project management and vendor coordination
Behavioral: Safety must be a top priority
Ability to work periodic off‑shifts, weekends, and on‑call support for critical operations
Some travel to vendor sites or other company facilities may be required (up to 15%)
Preferred
Some general SCADA understanding is also beneficial for developing the interface from our OEM equipment to client supervisory control networks preferred
Ability to implement some SCADA applications involving Allen-Bradley PanelViews (RSView Enterprise) or other local graphic terminals is a plus
Ability to quickly learn and implement other PLC / DCS platforms is key
