Responsibilities
Lead all day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, general ledger management, and monthly close
Prepare and maintain accurate internal financial reports, statements, and dashboards to support operational and leadership decision-making
Oversee and improve the development of and compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and audit readiness across the organization
Lead public and private grant budgeting, fund allocations, and reporting compliance
Manage accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds, proactively identifying grant spending needs, underspend, or reallocation opportunities in conjunction with programs leadership
Identify and lead any budget modifications necessary to ensure accurately and timely spenddown for all grants
Serve as the primary financial contact for all grants and prepare and submit timely financial data for grant reporting and compliance requirements
Maintain real time understanding of and compliance with all Federal and state government funding requirements
Optimize financial systems and automated workflows, with an emphasis on Sage Intacct, for streamlined reporting, forecasting, and department-level dashboards
Monitor and support the automation of budget vs. actual reporting and real-time access for budget owners
Provide real-time financial insights and modeling to inform organizational strategy, cost allocations, and funding renewals
Conduct audit prep, risk mitigation, cash flow reporting, and sustainability modeling
Maintain strong documentation and processes to ensure knowledge transfer and compliance continuity
Supervise bookkeepers, ensuring task completion and skills development
Collaborate with program directors and managers to ensure financial fluency and understanding of budgets and grant obligations
Foster a culture of financial clarity, accountability, and service to mission across the organization
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
Minimum 6-8 years of nonprofit financial operations experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory or Controller-level role
Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial systems with multiple funding streams, including recent management experience of federal/state grants, private foundation grants, and restricted donor funds
Experience managing, reporting, creating and submitting GAMs, and closing out state and federal funding
Familiarity with nonprofit audit processes, GAAP, and fund accounting
Expertise with Sage Intacct and Microsoft Excel
Experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms
Strong analytical skills and comfort with interpreting financial data for cross-functional teams
Expertise with successful leadership of systems and efficiency improvements
