Senior Principal Metallurgist

Responsibilities
Evaluation of materials and processes based on conformance to specifications and design and performance requirements
Provide metallurgical support through the life cycle of the product
Supporting product production and supplier support activities
Providing evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes
Participate in analysis and documentation of technical positions for alternate materials, obsolescence, and failure analysis
Travel expected with role up to 25%
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgy and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 14+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience in metal alloy systems (i.e. Aluminum, Copper, Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Corrosion Resistant Steel, High Temperature Materials, and Specialty Alloys)
Experience in metallurgical heat treatment and pyrometry (i.e. SAE AMS2750, SAE AMS2759, and SAE AMS2770)
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Active and existing security clearance required after day 1
Preferred
Experience working with metals in design and development (material selections) and/or evaluation of metals for use in products
Experience reviewing engineering drawings and technical data packages (TDPs)
Experience as a Customer-Facing Technical Leader and/or Technical Presentations to Customer(s) or Industry Committees
Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry
Experience as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, Integrated Product Team, quality and /or supply chain organizations
Experience with metal manufacturing methods including Casting, Forging, Mill Products, Heat Treatment, Furnace Brazing, Additive Manufacturing
Experience working with and evaluation of suppliers performing special manufacturing processes, including Nadcap experience on either Subscriber or Supplier side
Experience with common industry standards for metals and metal manufacturing including Aerospace Materials Specifications, American Welding Society, and ASTM International
Experience with corrosion fundamentals and mitigation techniques
Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques
Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis and obsolescence investigations
