Responsibilities

Assists with preventive and basic corrective maintenance on Transit Systems electronic and electro-mechanical devices such as cameras, SIP devices, infrared counters, digital signage, smart card readers, coin and bill validators, credit card readers, PIN pads, networking devices, data processors, thermal printers, touch screens, and power supplies
Assists Electronics Technicians to ensure fare media stock is available for passenger use
Assists with basic systems troubleshooting and escalation of required repair work
Assists Electronics Technicians to correct minor vandalism, replace decals and other cleaning needs to ensure visual quality assurance standards are met on equipment
Utilizes software and other tools to assist with problem analysis for maintenance and configuration of equipment
Uses hand tools, power tools, and specialized system specific diagnostic equipment
Utilizes test instruments to ensure compliance with manufacturer requirements
Learns to identify necessary tools and supplies to carry out duties and ensure operational needs are met
Assists with maintaining records associated with tracking the preventative maintenance of systems. Creates and updates records of system’s performance, daily work activities, asset movement, and related information
Enters data into asset management system and ensures accuracy of data in accordance with Sound Transit requirements. Conducts regular auditing within asset management program as required
Learns to maintain quality assurance and control standards on systems
Demonstrates continuous awareness to improve day to day operations, decrease response times, streamline work processes, improve systems performance, and work collaboratively with a sense of urgency to provide quality customer service to internal and external entities
May escort vendors and provides access assistance for others performing work at Sound Transit properties
May assist engineering and installation teams with installing new equipment
Consistently demonstrates Agency core values in all interactions

Adheres to team operational performance standards and complies with policies and procedures in the performance of assigned work
Provides support to the department on matters as directed

Required

High School Diploma/GED and graduation from Technical/Trade school in Electronics or Electronic Communication Systems, or related field and two years of experience performing installation, maintenance and repair work of electronic or electro-mechanical devices; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid state driver's license
Electronic theory, practice, and electrical safety
Digital, analog, and electro-mechanical equipment
Basic troubleshooting methods
Cable distribution, cable termination, and basic principles of electricity
English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets
Basic networking principals
Safe use of hand and power tools
Learn and apply pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Safely use electronic test equipment
Employ principles of business letter writing and report preparation
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups, and the public
Diagnose problems or malfunctions and accomplish tasks efficiently and effectively
Comprehend and make inferences from material written in the English language and understand and follow complex schematics, circuit diagrams, service requests, worksheets, floor plans, electrical wiring plans, construction blueprints and related documents
Make skillful controlled manipulations of small objects such as wiring, tools and equipment components
Learn job related material through oral instruction, observation, structured lecture, and reading
Work under pressure, handle significant problems or tasks, which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly
Effectively engage in difficult conversations when working collaboratively with other departments, Agency officials, passengers and outside agencies
