Responsibilities
Communicate with parents and students regarding the importance of regular school attendance; explain and provide information regarding District policies and State laws and regulations related to student attendance
Operate a personal or District vehicle to make home visits to greet families new to the District; make referrals to social service agencies and community resources for food, clothing, housing, medical services and other needs
Promote parent and child participation in school by ensuring dissemination of information such as flyers and correspondence; provide both parent and student with identifiable reference sources and encourage parent involvement in school activities and classes
Establish and maintain community resource contacts as appropriate; maintain information on available community resources for use by District personnel, parent groups and families
Attend meetings of community groups; assist in the development and understanding of programs and policies of the District; participate in conferences, meetings and community projects in order to promote positive school and community relations
Communicate school concerns such as truancy, attitude, health issues to parents and community concerns to school; assist parents in communicating individual concerns in meetings with Principals or others; assist parents in scheduling teacher conferences and provide translation services as needed
Attend meetings with parents, students, teachers and administrators to resolve student attendance and related issues; prepare agendas, minutes and letters of notification as appropriate
Contact public safety agencies, other school district personnel, social workers and others regarding school attendance; obtain and provide information related to student and family needs and problems
Operate a computer terminal, printer, copier, facsimile machine and other office equipment
Attend open house, back-to-school night and other school activities
Perform routine clerical work in support of school programs and activities as assigned
Assist as needed in the school health office; assist ill or injured students and assist the nurse in screenings and testing procedures as assigned
Perform related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school
Two years of work experience related to the needs and issues of disadvantaged people
Valid California driver's license
Ability to speak, write and understand a designated second language
Benefits
Paid Holidays: Up to 16 holidays per year.
Paid Vacation: Up to 12 vacation days per year. Vacation is prorated based on months worked per year. Employees may earn up to 24 vacation days per year based on longevity with the District.
Health Benefits: For positions 30 hours or more per week.
