PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST FOR AUTONOMOUS EO/IR ISRT
The Naval Research Laboratory is seeking a Principal Scientist for Autonomous Electro-Optic/Infrared (EO/IR) Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance & Targeting (ISRT). This role involves conducting research and development in support of NRL, formulating research proposals, and disseminating scientific results through publications and presentations.

Responsibilities
You will perform research and development in Autonomous EO/IR ISRT in support of NRL, DON and DoW, to include acting as the Principal Investigator (PI) on projects
You will formulate research proposals, solicit funding for research proposals, and report the progress of the projects to sponsors and supervisors
You will make recommendations that will create precedents and guide DON/DoW and other organizations on programs of major significance
You will disseminate scientific results through publication in referred journals and pursue patents for ideas generated by the research
You will present scientific results to peers, professional audiences at national and international conferences, and funding agencies
You will be responsible for maintaining leading edge and state-of-the-art, expert knowledge and results in the areas of unmanned systems, distributed computing, signal and image processing, and electronic warfare
You will plan and oversee research and development work through a combination of science and technology leadership, business management and cooperative engagement
Qualification
Required
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: For 1310 Physics Series: A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics
OR B. Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours
Knowledge of electro-optic and infrared intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and tracking (EO/IR ISRT) components, subsystems, and systems suitable for integration onto unmanned system platforms, to include knowledge of unmanned system dynamics, capabilities, communications, and processing, and their relationship to basic and applied research in compact imaging sensor development (VIS/IR/Hyperspectral/Hypertemporal), advanced signal and image processing for target detection/classification/tracking, and novel AI algorithms for coordinating one or more autonomous assets
Ability to develop new concepts and architectures for the coordination of one or more autonomous assets utilizing electro-optic sensors for the purpose of accomplishing mission sets involving intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and tracking
Skill in integrating multi-modal sensing technologies into one or more autonomous platforms and performing the relevant testing and evaluation of the resulting autonomous system
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program

You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
This position requires access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
This is a Mission Essential position
Preferred
An advanced degree of Master's or Ph.D. in one of the educational fields listed above is highly desirable
