Director of Personal Training & Community Programming

Responsibilities
Lead a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming Personal Training and Pilates Studio team while fostering a high-performance, sales-driven culture
Develop, implement, and manage departmental operating plans with clear, measurable sales and revenue targets for both the department and individual trainers
Hold staff accountable for achieving personal and team sales goals, while tracking and reporting key metrics related to new client acquisition, retention, package sales, and studio growth
Provide comprehensive supervision of the Personal Training and Pilates Studio team, including recruiting, onboarding, coaching, ongoing performance management, and in-service trainings designed to improve sales effectiveness and service quality
Lead the successful launch, development, and expansion of the Pilates Studio, including aggressive sales strategies, new revenue initiatives, and targeted cross‑selling to existing PT clients
Create and manage the annual departmental budget, including revenue forecasting, expense management, sales performance tracking, and necessary corrective action to ensure financial success
Ensure staff maintain required certifications and that training supports both service quality and sales conversion skills
Maintain strong and frequent communication with staff, members, and leadership, promoting member engagement, retention, and high satisfaction scores
Coordinate member incentives, special events, and related engagement initiatives designed to increase program utilization and revenue
Serve as Race Director for the Montclair Run, overseeing planning, logistics, partnerships, volunteers, and revenue goals for the event in collaboration with the Executive Director, Healthy Living Coordinator, Marketing, and Development teams
Establish, grow, and manage community health programs including (but not limited to) YDPP, BPSM, and Parkinson’s programming
Recruit, train, and supervise qualified staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality program delivery and community impact
Monitor, maintain, and report accurate program data in accordance with YMCA, grant, DOH and partner requirements
Build and sustain collaborative relationships with community partners, agencies, and stakeholders to support program visibility and growth
Maintain full compliance with YMCA Abuse Prevention and Risk Management policies
Complete all required training and ensure programs adhere to high‑risk supervision standards
Conduct thorough screening of employees and volunteers and provide ongoing supervision to ensure safety policies are upheld
Provide regular feedback and enforce behavioral expectations and boundaries in alignment with YMCA standards
Respond promptly and appropriately to any reports of suspicious behavior or violations of policy, following mandated reporting procedures
Consistently communicate the YMCA’s commitment to safety for all members, participants, and staff
Qualification
Required
Successful deliverables related to developing and exceeding sales goals
Exceptional customer service skills, with experience to include genuine enthusiasm for serving members
Degree in health, nutrition, exercise science or equivalent preferred and a minimum of two years successful experience in the Health and Wellness fields in a leadership position
Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR effectively
Must be willing to obtain YMCA certifications
Two to three years' experience working with varied ages in a wellness environment
Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment
Creative and inspiring program development
Proven ability to lead staff and volunteers
Ability to work under occasional stressful conditions and to work irregular hours
Ability to work independently
Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
