Assistant Controller
Cooper Tacia General Contracting Company is a fast-growing, full-service general contracting company specializing in commercial construction. They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to oversee the company’s accounting operations and financial reporting functions.

Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, payroll coordination, and financial close processes
Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules, including revenue, cost of rental, depreciation, accruals, and intercompany activity
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP
Prepare and review financial statements and reports for leadership
Ensure branch transactions (rentals, sales, parts, service, write-offs, credits, etc.) are recorded accurately and in compliance with company policy
Support the preparation of annual budgets and ongoing forecasts; analyze financial results and variances and provide recommendations
Maintain and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements; coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors as needed
Ensure accurate reporting of income, expenses, depreciation, principal payments, etc against fleet rental assets
Oversee cash management activities including monitoring cash flow, coordinating with the VP of Accounting on banking needs, and supporting covenant reporting
Research and evaluate accounting guidance and regulatory changes to ensure proper application and compliance
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and system utilization
Support the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of accounting and financial systems & software
Perform additional duties as assigned by the VP of Accounting or company leadership to support organizational goals and objectives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
CPA license is required
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership or supervisory experience
Strong understanding of GAAP and rental / retail accounting practices
Experience with accounting and financial systems; proficiency with Microsoft Excel required
Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide clear recommendations
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments and the accounting team
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members
Professional demeanor with strong communication skills and sound judgment
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing equipment rental environment
Preferred
Experience in equipment sales, rental or similar retail industries strongly preferred
Experience with Acumatica is a plus
