Automotive Equipment Specialist

Responsibilities
Works directly with citywide departments to collect vehicle and/or equipment requirements and specifications
Prepares written specifications for the solicitation and purchase of vehicles and equipment
Manages assigned vehicle construction projects utilizing vehicle request forms, City purchase orders and budgets
Inspects new equipment to assure conformance with bid specifications, and contacts vendor in writing in the event of discrepancy
Collects documentation and vehicle data, to assist in creating and maintaining vehicle records within Fleet Management’s database
Obtains registration, licensing, and regulatory compliance documentation
Maintains files of California Vehicle Codes and Federal Safety Regulations
Prepares timely reports relating to monies encumbered and expended for vehicles and equipment
Research procurement methods
Collects engineering specifications
Works directly with City communication departments to assist with installation design of two-way radio and mobile network systems
Research and provide recommendation for battery electric vehicles and equipment
Qualification
Required
Successful completion of high school, General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate
Two (2) years of specification writing leading to the purchase of automotive equipment or equivalent college training in automotive technology
Possession of a valid California Driver's License at all times is a condition of employment
Preferred
A valid State of California Class A or B Driver's License is desirable
Experience in specification writing types, descriptive, performance and engineered
Experience in analyzing engineered drawings to confirm projects scope and requirements
Knowledge of truck manufacturing stages
Knowledge of vehicle compliance laws
Experience in coordinating and conducting vehicle construction meetings
Experienced with common business computer applications including but not limited to: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Excel
Ability to manage a database
