Responsibilities

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain legacy and mission-critical applications written primarily in C and other procedural languages
Analyze, debug, refactor, and optimize existing C-based codebases, including large, monolithic, and long-lived systems
Perform root cause analysis and resolve production defects in complex legacy environments
Maintain and extend real-time, transaction-processing systems with high reliability, determinism, and performance requirements
Work within structured, procedural architectures (non-object-oriented) while ensuring backward compatibility and system stability
Perform detailed code reviews with emphasis on memory management, pointer safety, stack/heap usage, resource management, and performance tuning
Develop and execute unit and integration tests for legacy C applications
Support build, release, and configuration management processes using established development toolchains
Provide technical leadership and mentorship in procedural programming best practices and legacy system maintenance
Participate in Kanban workflows, contributing to backlog refinement, work-in-progress management, and continuous delivery practices

Required

Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in C programming within legacy or long-lived enterprise systems
Strong experience with procedural programming concepts (structured design, modular decomposition, function-driven architecture)
Extensive debugging experience in complex C environments, including memory leaks, pointer corruption, concurrency issues, and performance bottlenecks
Minimum of 5+ years of experience using Microsoft Visual Studio and Azure DevOps (or TFS) for source control, builds, and release management
Familiarity with legacy build systems, compilers, and version control practices
Experience working within a Kanban-based development environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to clearly document legacy system behavior and technical changes
