Technical Writer 4 (Government – Hybrid)
ProLegion is seeking a highly experienced Technical Writer to support the Virginia Department of Elections in a cloud-based software development initiative. This role involves translating complex technical information into clear documentation and developing a comprehensive style guide for ongoing Agile projects.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain user guides, release notes, API documentation, and technical manual
Create and maintain a comprehensive style guide for a software development project
Collaborate with developers, product managers, and SMEs in an Agile/Scrum environment
Translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly documentation
Maintain version control and documentation governance standards
Ensure compliance with accessibility and government documentation standards
Manage multiple documentation efforts and meet established deadlines
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science, or related field
8+ years of professional technical writing experience
Prior experience supporting state, federal, or county government agencies
Strong experience documenting software products (cloud/SaaS preferred)
Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and software architecture concepts
Experience with Git or other version control system
Experience with Confluence, MS Word, Google Docs, or similar tool
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environment
Ability to read and understand code snippets
Preferred
Experience creating style guides for software projects
Familiarity with accessibility standards (Section 508)
Experience with diagramming tools (Lucidchart, Draw.io)
Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS or Markdown
Experience with UX writing
