Mechanical Engineer - Vertical Transportation

WSP USA is currently seeking a Vertical Transportation Engineer to join their dynamic team. Responsibilities

Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction
Apply high-level vertical transportation engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various building and infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation
Perform professional vertical transportation engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage, and VTS to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits
Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients
Involved from project inception to completion in the management of vertical transportation design and construction of building and infrastructure projects, including rehabilitation and reconstruction, new builds, operating specifications, building materials, phasing, and construction safety plans
Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of VTS, implementing future-ready solutions with vertical transportation engineering design standards
Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues relating to VTS and specifications
Coordinate, review and approve installation design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations
Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and other illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses
Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address engineering, design, and/or construction issues or opportunities
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities
Collaborate with professionals, other engineers, planners, and building and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects
Remain current in latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a focus on VTS
3-5 years of relevant post-education experience, including prior experience in vertical transportation design and engineering
Proficient in mechanical and vertical transportation engineering principles, practices, design/build processes, and their application to project work-related issues
Extensive familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, vertical transportation design, and construction management—including rehabilitation projects and new VTS designs
Well-versed in relevant mechanical and vertical transportation laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements specific to VTS
Strong analytical mindset with sound judgment in evaluating vertical transportation scenarios and making informed decisions
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to both engineering and non-engineering audiences regarding VTS
Demonstrated self-leadership with meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic VT engineering environment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team, to meet vertical transportation project objectives
Basic proficiency in technical writing, office automation, engineering software, technology, mathematical principles, predictive modeling, spreadsheets, and VT-specific tools
Experience with vertical transportation and discipline-specific design software (such as AutoCAD, Elevate, Revit) relevant to elevator and escalator design and analysis
Proven track record of maintaining workplace safety and compliance with WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies as they relate to VT work environments
Willingness to travel occasionally, as required by vertical transportation project needs
