Tier4 Group is seeking a proactive, hands-on Network Engineer who will actively drive, own, and close technical tickets while serving as a key technical bridge between the Senior Network Engineer and Tier 1 NOC team. This role requires someone who does not wait for direction but actively pushes issues toward resolution, improves processes, and helps elevate the overall support function.

Responsibilities

Monitor network availability, performance, and reliability across environments
Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues to ensure maximum uptime
Take ownership of escalated tickets and actively drive them to closure
Serve as the escalation point between Tier 1 NOC and Senior Network Engineering
Perform root cause analysis, document findings, and recommend long-term improvements
Support mission-critical systems in multi-tenant environments
Deploy, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and related infrastructure
Work with hardware platforms such as SonicWall, Cambium, UniFi, Meraki, Fortinet, WatchGuard, or similar vendors
Maintain secure, high-availability network environments
Ensure proper documentation and diagram updates aligned with best practices
Support hybrid networking environments with exposure to AWS and/or Azure
Understand cloud networking fundamentals including:
Virtual networks (VPC/VNet)
Subnetting and routing
VPN connectivity
Security groups and firewall policies
Assist in troubleshooting connectivity between on-prem and cloud environments
Implement and support network security controls to protect systems and data
Follow and help refine network standards, policies, and operational procedures
Utilize monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Auvik, Wireshark, SolarWinds, or similar platforms
Communicate clearly with management regarding incidents, risks, and performance
Provide technical guidance to internal teams and end users
Act as a stabilizing technical buffer between leadership and frontline support
Help mentor and elevate Tier 1 resources where appropriate

Required

~3+ years of hands-on network engineering or advanced network support experience
Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP
Strong working knowledge of DNS
Strong working knowledge of DHCP
Strong working knowledge of VLANs
Strong working knowledge of Routing & switching fundamentals
Experience in multi-tenant or managed environments
Exposure to AWS and/or Azure networking concepts
Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to independently drive issues to resolution
Experience with network monitoring and packet analysis tools
Solid understanding of network security best practices
Ability to balance independent ownership with collaborative teamwork
Strong documentation and communication skills

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent
Experience operating in an MSP, NOC, or hybrid cloud environment
