Staff Engineer, Systems Design

Responsibilities

Technology Ownership: Lead and maintain core technologies for Recor’s high-frequency ultrasound power delivery system for intravascular denervation. Diagnose and resolve complex algorithmic, electrical, mechanical, and fluidic system challenges
System Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop new systems and subsystems, including electrical/acoustic power delivery, fluid circulation, software, and system control algorithms
Requirements & Architecture: Translate user needs and physician feedback into detailed engineering requirements and specifications. Develop and maintain system and subsystem requirements, architecture, and design documentation
Testing & Validation: Define system-level test strategies, author protocols, execute tests, and prepare comprehensive reports. Support hazard analysis and FMEA for systems and subsystems
Risk Analysis: Lead hazard analysis and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) for systems and subsystems as a subject matter expert
Compliance & Standards: Ensure adherence to medical device standards (IEC 60601, IEC 62304, FDA, MDR, ISO 14971, ISO 13485). Coordinate EMC and safety testing with external labs. Maintain traceability in Jama
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with marketing, quality, regulatory, and operations teams throughout planning, development, verification, and production phases
Technical Leadership: Prepare and present technical reviews, defend design decisions, and contribute to peer reviews of team deliverables

Required

Advanced degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields; Ph.D. preferred
Minimum 7 years of experience developing complex instrumentation or equipment in areas such as optics, ultrasound/acoustics, RF electronics, pump systems, and embedded real-time control systems. RF and ultrasound experience strongly preferred
Proven expertise in system architecture, specification, and design across electrical, mechanical, and software domains
Familiarity with quality and regulatory requirements for medical devices; experience with Class III capital equipment is a plus
Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead projects, and collaborate effectively across technical disciplines
Strong communication, documentation, and technical writing skills
