Field Application Scientist (FAS)
Responsibilities
Lead/support pre-sales scientific engagement, including demos, workflow evaluations, and proof-of-concept activities
Own post-sale application implementation for systems supported during pre-sales, from onboarding through go-live
Design, optimize, and validate automated laboratory workflows (liquid handling, sample prep, consumables, software)
Partner with Sales and Strategic Accounts to scope technically sound, executable solutions
Serve as the primary escalation point for application-level issues post-installation
Support workflow expansion, consumables pull-through, and long-term customer success
Provide structured customer feedback to Product Management, R&D, and Engineering
Support internal and partner training on applications and scientific value
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, or a related discipline; Master's or PhD qualifications are advantageous
Approximately 1-3 years of relevant industry or laboratory experience, including Field Application Support (FAS), applications engineering, automation support, or strong hands-on laboratory work
Practical experience with life science automation and liquid handling systems
Exposure to life science applications and workflows within molecular biology, cell biology, omics, or analytical laboratory settings is highly preferred
Demonstrated hands-on experience in developing, programming, optimizing, or troubleshooting automation workflows and scripts
Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities with a customer-focused approach
Self-motivated and able to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced, or start-up environment
Candidates with an applications engineering or automation engineering background will be highly preferred
Solid understanding of life science laboratory operations and workflows
Professional fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese is required
Proven ability to work directly with customers and successfully drive implementation and deployment outcomes
Willingness to travel 40–60% (customer sites, internal meetings, conferences)
Willingness and ability to spend an extended period overseas (minimum 1 month+) in Suzhou, China for initial training
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport and required visas
Preferred
Experience supporting enterprise pharma or biotech customers
Exposure to AI-enabled, software-driven, or data-centric laboratory platforms
Experience in regulated environments (GLP, GxP, clinical, or manufacturing)
Prior collaboration with China-based R&D or applications teams
