Computer Software

Responsibilities

Own our enterprise risk function, with both Actuarial and Underwriting reporting directly into this role
Set the strategic direction, risk culture, and talent development agenda across the risk organization, coaching and developing functional leaders to execute with rigor and autonomy
Serve as the primary risk voice to executive leadership, the board, and external partners — communicating portfolio performance, emerging exposures, and risk appetite with credibility and transparency
Own our reinsurance program and external capacity relationships — managing our broker partnership, leading treaty negotiations, and proactively sourcing new capacity partners to maintain a diversified and resilient panel. Ensure program structure, limits, and retentions remain continuously aligned with portfolio growth and the company’s capital strategy
Define and own our risk appetite framework, translating it into clear underwriting guidelines, coverage parameters, and exception boundaries for the Underwriting team to execute against
Exercise final sign-off authority on underwriting decisions that fall outside established guidelines, including complex risk profiles, large exposures, and material policy exceptions
Ensure underwriting strategy remains aligned with carrier requirements, reinsurance structures, and the company’s long-term profitability objectives
Oversee the actuarial or quantitative risk function, ensuring sound reserving, pricing, and loss development methodologies across our full product suite
Guide modeling and analysis to support product development, carrier negotiations, reinsurance structuring, and long-term profitability targets — bringing new data sets and analytical approaches to bear
Ensure quantitative outputs are integrated into underwriting guidelines, pricing frameworks, and portfolio management decisions in a rigorous and scalable way
Hold accountability for overall risk portfolio performance, monitoring loss trends, emerging risks, and profitability against targets across all product lines
Partner with Finance, Product, and Revenue leadership to provide risk-informed perspectives on growth strategy, new product development, and market expansion
Lead industry trends assessment and incorporate relevant insights into risk strategy, portfolio oversight, and forward-looking risk management

Required

12+ years of professional experience in a risk, actuarial, credit, or quantitative analytical role within financial services, insurance, or a related industry
Strong quantitative foundation with demonstrated ability to build or oversee pricing, reserving, or credit loss models — whether in a P&C insurance or credit risk context
Demonstrated experience leading and managing cross-functional teams, including direct oversight of analytical and underwriting or credit decision functions
Proficiency in statistical software (e.g. SQL, Python, R) and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI) to manage portfolio performance and risk reporting
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex risk concepts for executive, board, and external audiences
Demonstrated ownership of a meaningful, ideally growing business line — holding direct accountability for profitability outcomes and a proven ability to drive strategic risk changes that support sustainable, profitable growth
Resourceful, creative problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and can build new frameworks from scratch rather than simply applying existing ones
Executive presence and comfort managing external relationships (carriers, reinsurers, capital partners, or credit facility counterparties)

Preferred

Experience in P&C insurance, insurtech, or insurance-adjacent financial products is a meaningful plus but not required
Actuarial credentials (FCAS, ACAS, FSA, ASA, or equivalent) or equivalent quantitative credentialing (CFA, FRM) are a plus
Prior experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment, particularly building new insurance or financial products from scratch
Familiarity with reinsurance program structures, carrier relationships, or regulatory frameworks relevant to specialty insurance
