ESSP Senior Lead Protection Engineer

WSP is currently initiating a search for an ESSP Senior Lead Protection Engineer. The successful applicant will have a direct role in the design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for equipment on the bulk power system, including the protection of substations, transmission lines, and renewables.

Responsibilities

Be involved in projects with our Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges
The successful candidate will be responsible for using their extensive knowledge and expertise to develop new clients, make strategic decisions, and lead projects and teams
Protective Relaying: Symmetrical component analysis, protection philosophy development, relay settings, and integration with SCADA systems
Protection Analyses: Electrical model development, short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, NERC compliance, and event analysis
Leadership: Lead teams on client projects to meet the scope, schedule, and budget. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
Data Acquisition: Support infrequent onsite site visits to collect data and able to discuss project specifics at appropriate technical level for clients
Industry Standards: Working knowledge or awareness of applicable industry practices for protection as outlined in IEEE, ANSI, or NERC PRC standards
Organized: Flexibility to support a variety of project schedules to meet client needs and able to prioritize responsibilities effectively
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited)
12+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer executing deliverables for Protective Relaying projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale
Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred

Preference will be given to applicants with a proven history of leading and completing similar projects in a consulting environment
Preference may be given to engineers with commissioning and testing experience, or strong skills in protecting equipment at high voltages (69kV and higher)
Preference is also given to applicants with experience mentoring others and a willingness to do so
