Responsibilities
Apply diversified aerospace engineering expertise to atypical or highly difficult assignments related to planning, designing, developing, and inspecting aerospace elements, components, systems, and subsystems.
Design or perform aerospace engineering for the latest, state-of-the-art equipment to be integrated into systems or aircraft.
Review or develop installation instructions for systems or continued airworthiness under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines.
Develop specifications for repair, modifications, and testing of new types of aircraft systems.
Generate highly detailed engineering reports as specified in local policy.

Required
Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: statics, dynamics; strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); fluid mechanics, hydraulics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits; nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Professional registration or licensure - Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT) or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
Specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-1 or GS-05 in the Federal service, which includes utilizing engineering principles or practices to support aircraft activities and assisting in the preparation of engineering reports.
One full year of graduate-level education in a related field.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.9 or higher based on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 full years of undergraduate study.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 3.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale for required courses completed in a major field of study, or those courses completed in a major field of study during the last two years of undergraduate study.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision of the college.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with membership in a national Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College Honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies.
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-2 or GS-09 in the Federal service, which includes assisting in the development, design, and testing of aircraft systems and executing project plans, defining problems, and preparing reports of any discrepancies.
