Responsibilities
Provide high quality oral and written legal advice in a cost-effective manner to internal clients
Recommend practical courses of action to achieve business goals within the scope of what is legally permissible
Perform comprehensive research and analysis of reported cases, statutes, regulations and other legal materials regarding issues often characterized by an absence of clear legal precedent and renders clear and unambiguous legal opinions and advice as necessary
Provide proactive advice regarding the implications of new laws substantially impacting the Company`s business, anticipate legal issues and encourage practices to prevent problems from arising
Representative duties include providing day-to-day advice and guidance on regulatory compliance matters, drafting and reviewing life insurance and annuity products, resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, structuring, negotiating and drafting strategic agreements, reviewing practices and policies and being an active member of cross-functional project teams
Assign, direct and review the work of outside counsel
Prepare and conduct training sessions for internal clients
Maintain current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law

Required
Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one state required
At least 5 years’ experience practicing law; preferably in the life insurance and annuities space
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all appropriate parties
Efficiently and effectively manages a variety of assignments and competing priorities
Delivers creative and rigorous analysis with high attention to detail and accuracy
Exhibits a desire to continuously learn and develop
Consistently demonstrates exemplary and unwavering ethics and values
A trusted advisor who projects confidence, is able to motivate others and has the fortitude to maintain unpopular positions
Preferred
Ability to prioritize, scope, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
A facility with technology and comfort dealing in nuance
Common sense, great judgment, a broad perspective and a good sense of humor
