Responsibilities
Accountable for the risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability decisions made by the production underwriting team
Empowers employees to use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals
Ensures business is priced in accordance with company guidelines
Assesses risk quality and compliance with company guidelines and initiates appropriate loss prevention activities
Ensures that effective business relations with internal and external customers/coworkers are developed and maintained in order to attract and retain profitable business
Ensures adequate numbers of visits are conducted with agents, brokers, and producers to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships, and develop new opportunities
Ensures the provision of excellent customer service
Responsible for the performance and coaching of staff and decisions regarding talent selection, development and performance management
Drives underwriting excellence through a high level of engagement

Required
Generally, 10+ years of workers’ compensation underwriting experience including a minimum of 5 years of California-specific experience
Technically proficient in the nuances of workers’ compensation insurance
Proven career track record of success
Experience managing employees (7+ years preferred) to achieve successful business outcomes
Ability to attract and develop underwriting talent
Willingness to delegate responsibility and authority
Ability to manage and develop talent
Highest integrity
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated high-level of initiative and self-discipline
Results-driven; holds oneself and others accountable
Builds relationships and trust, balancing the needs of team members with business results
Builds high enthusiasm and motivation
Develops team members; provides honest, timely feedback, coaching, and career development opportunities
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Liberal Arts, or related discipline preferred

Base salary range: $190,000 - $230,000
