Responsibilities

Handle employment-related cases before California State and Federal courts and administrative agencies such as State Personnel Board (SPB), Civil Rights Department (CRD), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE).
Provide legal advice and counsel to State Fund Executives, Managers, and their subordinates, as well as the Human Resources department, on California-Specific employment and workplace issues, including hiring, progressive discipline, terminations, accommodations, discrimination, and harassment.
Represent State Fund in complex, sensitive, and difficult high-stakes employment litigation and provide corporate advice to reduce State Fund’s legal exposure.

Required

California employment law experience gained through practicing law in California.
Employment law experience through practicing in federal courts and administrative agencies such as CRD, EEOC, DLSE and SPB.
The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Preferred

Substantial California-specific litigation experience in the employment law practice area.
A proven track record of serving as lead counsel in trials before CA State or Federal Courts, including jury trials.
The ability to independently handle and litigate complex civil cases and corporate matters.
Expertise in handling California-specific forums and jurisdictions, including administrative agencies such as DLSE, SPB, EEOC and CRD.
Experience providing legal advice, representation, and training to high-level executives, internal partners, and other state departments.
Exceptional proficiency in legal research, analysis, and writing.
Proven leadership abilities, including mentoring and guiding junior legal staff.
Experience managing cases with significant organizational impact, including those with high stakes, complexity, or media exposure.
