Responsibilities
Assist in the development, improvement, and maintenance of a system under the auspices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assist U.S. public health agencies to securely track the spread of infectious disease
Design and develop bioinformatics programs to process public health surveillance data using a cloud-based AWS system
Under direct supervision, applies professional bioinformatics concepts and computational procedures to complete small independent projects or portions of larger projects
Works on assignments of limited to moderate scope and complexity
Follows standard programming procedures to analyze situations and data from which answers can be readily obtained.

Required
Six years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.
Working knowledge of bioinformatics methods and data structures.
Working knowledge of applications programming and web development.
Working knowledge of databases.
Working project management skills.
Working knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.
Interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Self motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
Working knowledge of application and data security concepts.
Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, and git version control systems.
Preferred
Basic understanding of biological data (e.g., genetic sequences, evolutionary biology, epidemiology).
