Responsibilities

Supervise and mentor a team of five program officers and one health specialist/social science analyst.
Manage a distributed workforce including remote employees.
Lead strategic planning for the branch, including identifying research gaps and opportunities, promising research partnerships, and the development of staff proposals for new NIA research initiatives.
Communicate NIA program emphases and NIH processes to diverse audiences.
Present and justify funding plans to NIA leadership and the National Advisory Council on Aging.
Identify significant research findings from grants managed by the branch and communicate results to NIA leadership and other audiences, both professional and public.
Foster transdisciplinary collaboration, including representing NIA on trans-NIA and trans-NIH working groups or committees.
Manage a portfolio of research grants and cooperative agreements in areas of particular interest and expertise.
Support the IBP Associate Director in setting priorities for the IBP Program.

Required

A relevant doctoral degree (e.g., M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc.) in the behavioral, psychological, or biomedical sciences. E.g., psychology, behavioral medicine, psychiatry, social/affective neuroscience, cognitive science.
Skills and experience in implementing and leading psychological and behavioral science research programs relevant to the life course, psychological development, cognitive aging, and/or aging.
Strong organizational and leadership/mentoring skills.
Interest in helping direct reports develop professionally.
Ability to set short and longer-term priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and oral communication, including strong skills in developing presentations and briefing materials.
Working knowledge of NIH funding mechanisms and grants management.
Self-starter capable of working both independently and collaboratively as a team player, including across multiple areas of science supported by the division and with colleagues in other NIA divisions.
