Responsibilities
Ensure customers are treated in a proactive, caring, professional manner.
Prompt, fair resolution of claims, reflective of damages, in relation to liability and negligence.
Control of loss adjustment and litigation expenses.
Achieves superior litigation management through trial results, litigation audits, and use of ADR.
Maintain file quality as measured by internal and external audits.
Ensure timely, accurate and stable case reserves in accordance with Preferred Mutual Insurance Company claim reserve program.
Ensure proper file documentation and reporting, loss recovery and file disposition.
Work with Claim Manager and other teams to achieve corporate goals.
Advises, directs and authorizes assigned counsel on handling and disposition of litigated claims.
Ensure staff development through continued training and audits.
Partners with the other claim managers and other team members to meet team's goals and objectives.
Partners with underwriters on issues. Works on cross-functional teams for corporate wide projects.
Requires extensive contact with defense counsel, insureds and our independent agency representatives. In addition, strong relationships are needed with industry peers, professional organizations and service providers.
Execute on the Claims Team strategies to achieve quality, customer service and operational objectives.
Motivate, supervise, lead, develop and retain claims staff.
Create an environment to provide opportunities for all associates to reach their full potential.
Develop a partnership with sales & underwriting to deliver customer service and foster agency relationships consistent with Preferred Mutual’s mission, vision and values.
Works closely with claims counsel, general counsel, and reinsurers.
Responsible for the growth and technical development of their team, particularly in regard to coverage analysis, investigation, damage assessment and controlling time element exposures.
Reviews, coaches and provides authority for losses of moderate to high complexity.
Oversees all claims related functions and provides feedback and suggestions to company leadership.
Ensures compliance with Team initiatives and Compliance Team related matters.
Responsible for appropriate resolution of Insurance Department complaints and full implementation of Regulatory Compliance, to include documentation and records retention requirements.
Ensure the development of a viable business recovery plan and maintain in a state of readiness.
Prepare and manage department budgets.
May be called upon to perform additional duties as directed.

Required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 5 years’ experience handling complex casualty losses including litigation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced insurance education: SCLA, CPCU or equivalent.
Familiar with state regulations and policy coverages.
Excellent oral and written communication, listening, team building, organization and negotiation skills.
Strong time and project management skills that support continued process improvement, as well as the achievement of goals and objectives.
Strong knowledge and understanding of anatomy, injuries, medical terminology, auto mechanics and construction techniques.
Strong knowledge of litigation management and policy interpretation.
