Responsibilities

Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL programs on mainframe systems.

Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and optimization of existing COBOL applications.

Collaborate with business analysts, product managers, and end-users to gather requirements and propose solutions.

Ensure compliance with organizational standards, including coding practices and documentation.

Participate in code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to best practices.

Maintain and enhance legacy systems while ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Provide production support, including incident management and root cause analysis.

Document technical designs, application workflows, and system processes.

Stay updated on advancements in mainframe and COBOL technologies to recommend improvements.

Required

Strong experience in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, and CICS programming in a mainframe environment.

Knowledge of relational databases (DB2, SQL) and file structures.

Experience with batch processing and real-time transaction systems.

Experience with mainframe tools like TSO, ISPF, and IBM utilities.

Proficient in debugging tools such as Abend-AID or similar.

Understanding of SDLC processes and methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall.

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Experience in modernization or migration of mainframe systems.

Experience with DevOps practices and tools in a mainframe context.

Knowledge of scripting languages or integration tools for mainframe systems.

Required Security clearance.

Preferred

Exposure to other programming languages like Java or Python is a plus.

Federal Experience is a plus.
