Responsibilities

Provide taxpayer assistance to collect past due balances and to bring the taxpayer into compliance
Research and analyzes financial assets to determine the best possible case resolution and negotiates and establishes payment plans based incompliance with department policies and procedures
Assist taxpayers in determining the best resolution to satisfy their liability and moves misapplied payments, reverses write offs, and waives penalties as needed
Receive phone calls from taxpayers who need assistance with filing electronically and with small tax issues, liabilities, and identifying appropriate tax forms that are required for businesses
Answer telephone calls and resolves written correspondence related to tax law and responds to taxpayers on issues relating to the computation and application of tax credit for taxes paid to another state when an individual resides in North Carolina but works in another state
Listen carefully to the taxpayer to ensure the taxpayer's question is properly addressed, consults the federal and state publications which address the issues involved, and searches through the subject matter to locate the provisions of the law which apply to the taxpayer's concerns
Make outbound calls to taxpayers to proactively resolve moderate taxpayers' issues
May train new Collections Specialists

Required

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated high-volume call center experience, or tax experience, or collections experience
Demonstrated experience using business and accounting principles
Demonstrated experience providing customer service
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word / Excel / Outlook / Teams
