Responsibilities
Cost Accounting Manager will be an integral member of the accounting team with high visibility to regional and accounting and finance leadership.
This position will partner with Regional Controller, State Director, FP&A, Shared Services, Production and IT teams to successfully lead the cost accounting function and initiatives across the organization.
The position will oversee staff and / or senior cost accounting and include review of their analysis, entries and reconciliations.
Responsible for reviewing and assisting staff in month end and quarter end entries related to inventory valuation and cost of goods sold, Analyze, review and approve inventory valuation schedules and roll-forwards.
Ensure understanding and assist in intercompany transactions reconciliation as it relates to inventory and product transfers
Responsible for the team’s execution of SOX controls within the inventory process.
Review balance sheet reconciliations, inventory roll forwards and journal entries in a timely manner and in line with corporate accounting closing schedule
Oversee preparation of net realizable value testing and calculations; assess excess capacity where applicable
Lead development and maintenance of standard costs, system updates for cost roll up and maintenance of absorption drivers
Partner with production to evaluate variances and correct recipes / routers where needed.
Participate in time studies and testing of BOM data to ensure accurate costing and absorption.
Provide timely feedback and variance analysis to operations to make necessary corrections where needed.
Perform technical analysis of production data to determine financial performance, identify and flag missing, incorrect or non-recurring information and problem solve as needed
Assist FP&A team in margin analysis
Partner with production, FP&A, marketing, and sales to evaluate inventory reserves, slow moving and obsolete product analysis
Liaison with external auditors for physical inventories, inventory price testing, policies and memos on reserves, excess capacity and NRV evaluation and testing
Support operations in coordinating annual or quarterly physical inventories with external auditors.
Evaluate and provide feedback on physical inventory controls, physical to book inventory variances and correction action
Lead cost accounting functions in system implementation or conversion, where applicable
Successfully partner with Regional Controllers, FP&A, Shared Services, Production, and IT teams to drive use of SAP for major operations
Drive process improvements and cross functional projects within the company
Participate in integration of acquired businesses or new ventures.

Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field of study
Experience of 4+ years in Cost Accounting and analysis roles
Standard cost experience in manufacturing environment, with in-depth variance analysis
Strong knowledge of SOX controls
Technical ability to work with large data sets from multiple systems and make good business judgment when necessary
Good communication skills and demonstrated experience of working cross functionally with multiple departments in achieving goals
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Curiosity and drive to always continue learning within the cost accounting realm and execute on process improvements
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines while delivering consistent, accurate and reliable work
Preferred
MBA or CPA preferable
Previous management experience preferred, not required
Prior SAP implementation experience highly preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft applications
