Responsibilities

Provide leadership, direction and performance management to all Records department staff, in all locations. Includes direct management of the integrated services contractor currently staffing this department and the application of records data stewardship processes.
Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive data governance policies, processes, and systems for the creation, quality assessment, and disposition of client and administrative records in both physical and electronic formats. Assume ownership of existing project to transition away from paper to electronic record sets.
Maintain in-house and vendor provided information systems used to track and audit records. Recommend appropriate records management software solutions and updates as needed.
Monitor ongoing programs and procedures for efficiency and compliance with records retention and information security policies, data quality standards, guidelines, and industry best practices.
Administer the records and data retention schedule, performing periodic audits as needed to ensure service levels are met that are consistent with the business needs of the Firm.
Work with the Firm’s Chief Information Security Officer and to review and update records management policies and security controls as needed and provide regular records data governance maturity assessments.
Work with IT team members to ensure security, compliance, and governance requirements are met across all critical enterprise data silos.
Work collaboratively with Practice Group and administrative leaders to develop records and data governance solutions consistent with the firm’s business needs and compliance requirements.
Develop, implement and control standard operating procedures related to data governance and records management operations.
Provide training, consulting, and presentations to internal stakeholders as needed.

Proven ability to develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with industry-standard frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), various contractual and regulatory obligations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and organizational objectives.
Possess a strong understanding of legal records management principles and data governance frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
Maintain records and/or data management certification(s) in good standing, with ongoing awareness of industry updates and trends in records and data management practice, policies, and procedures.
Expert knowledge of business process design principles as they related to data governance, records management, and data quality.
Ability to assess business risks and build and maintain appropriate continuity solutions to ensure the security, integrity, and availability of a large and dynamic inventory of physical and digital records and eDiscovery data collections with diverse access and retention requirements.
The ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time daily.
Must be able to operate a computer.
Must be able to communicate complex information and ideas.
Must be able to meet deadlines set by management.
Must be available and able to travel (no more than 10%) as necessary.
A bachelor’s degree in information technology, data management, business administration, or a related field required.
Four or more years of experience in data governance, master data management (MDM), records management, or related roles within an enterprise environment is required.
Two or more years in a supervisory role and/or verifiable experience leading/supervising contractors is required.
Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team are required.

Preferred

Experience implementing International Standards Organization (ISO) controls in records management, quality management, and/or information security is highly desired.
Experience transitioning a large enterprise from a physical records management program and integrating it into a centralized electronic Document Management System (DMS) is desired.
Experience using a DMS and data governance tools and technologies such as data dictionaries, metadata management tools, records management software, and data lineage tools is desired.
A Certified Records Manager (CRM) certification in good standing from the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM), an ARMA Information Governance Professional (IGP) certification, a Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification from DAMA International, a Data Governance and Stewardship Professional certification from the Data Governance Institute, or any combination of the above is a plus.
Strong project management skills and a high-level understanding of how artificial intelligence systems interact with data are a plus.
Experience using Microsoft Power BI or other reporting tools is a plus.
Active participation/membership in information management professional organizations and web communities is expected.
