Responsibilities
Develop predictive and explanatory AI solutions that help improve legal decision making using deep learning, machine learning, NLP (Natural Language Processing), and generative AI techniques
Apply knowledge of sophisticated analytics techniques to manipulate large structured and unstructured data sets in order to generate insights to inform business decisions.
Guide implementation, testing, and evaluation of models
Work with clients to develop a strong understanding of business needs and use that business understanding to help design effective analytical solutions
Manage and execute all aspects of analytic initiatives, including developing project plans and collaborating with others
Present methodology and results of analysis to a broad range of audiences, including both technical and non-technical, at all levels of the organization
Collaborate closely with other members of the Legal Analytics and Data Science team and the Liberty Mutual Data Science community

Required
Competencies typically acquired through a Ph.D. degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Actuarial Science or other scientific field of study) with 0-1 years professional experience, a Master’s degree and 2-3 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience
Ability to design and apply a broad set of machine learning and analytic techniques to specific opportunities defined by legal stakeholders
Adept at framing business questions and practices in analytic terms and then translating business requirements into corresponding datasets, analyses, and models
Demonstrated proficiency in Python
Experience with software management tools (such as Git)
Demonstrated communication skills to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely
Ability to effectively self-manage longer-term efforts by establishing and adhering project milestones and deadlines
Preferred
Understanding of MLOps principles to aid in development and deployment of efficient, robust, and repeatable work products
Experience applying machine learning, deep learning, and/or NLP techniques, especially using PyTorch, Hugging Face, and sci-kit-learn on large, unstructured data
Experience developing and implementing generative AI solutions
Experience working with insurance, claims, or legal data
