Director of Business Development

Responsibilities
Achieve and exceed sales targets and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy to achieve organizational growth objectives in conjunction with established departmental plan
Identify and prioritize target markets and potential clients in line with the company’s capabilities and strategic goals
Cultivate and maintain relationships with key decision-makers at pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies
Identify and engage new clients, understanding their needs and presenting tailored service offerings to secure new business
Oversee the preparation of proposals, contracts, and presentations to prospective clients
Negotiate budgets and scope of work ensuring alignment with both client requirements and company capabilities
Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, potential opportunities, and competitive landscape
Provide insights on industry trends and client needs to inform business strategy and service development
Work closely with internal teams including clinical operations, Project Delivery Directors, resourcing, and finance to ensure seamless project delivery and client satisfaction
Mentor team members involved in the sales process, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Prepare and present regular reports on business development activities, pipeline status, and revenue forecasts to senior management
Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to enhance brand visibility and generate new leads
Develop and deliver presentations to industry groups and stakeholders, showcasing the company’s expertise and service offerings
Ensure all business development activities are accurately accounted in the CRM or other tracking tools to maintain sales activities and track progress
Ensure appropriate hand-off of new projects by transferring knowledge on client needs and expectations to appropriate project partners

Required
Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
Significant previous business success in sales/marketing management, pharmaceutical industry, CRO business development, and/or clinical operations management and proven ability to close sales
Strong software and computer skills, including MS office applications, Salesforce and CRM applications
Ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to travel, including air travel, on notice as short as 24 hours, maintaining efficient and effective travel schedules
Understanding of the clinical process in a CRO environment
BA/BS Degree, preferably in Business, Marketing or Sciences within the pharmaceutical industry and/or clinical research industry
5+ year’s sales and business development experience
In depth knowledge of the clinical research industry
Previous experience in selling clinical research services
