Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of certified coders, auditors, and support staff.
Establish performance metrics and KPIs for the coding department.
Conduct regular team meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations.
Oversee coding activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.
Stay up to date with payer policies, orthopedic coding changes, and regulatory updates.
Conduct regular coding audits and implement corrective action plans as needed.
Ensure adherence to HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with the revenue cycle, billing, and clinical teams to ensure correct coding and reduce denials.
Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement to enhance coding efficiency and accuracy.
Analyze coding data to identify trends, optimize revenue capture, and support strategic decision-making.
Develop and deliver coding education programs for physicians, clinical staff, and coders.
Provide guidance on documentation improvement to support accurate coding and billing.
Serve as a resource for complex coding inquiries and issues.
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of coding software, EHR systems, and coding tools.
Collaborate with IT and vendors to optimize coding workflows and ensure system functionality.
Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to monitor coding performance and identify areas for improvement.
Contribute to the development of coding policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
Partner with the compliance, clinical, and RCM teams to support organizational goals and initiatives.
Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and changes in orthopedic coding and reimbursement.
Qualification

Required
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification required.
Minimum of 7 years of coding experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role within an orthopedic or surgical specialty practice.
Expertise in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding for orthopedic procedures.
Familiarity with payer regulations, reimbursement methodologies, and denial management.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in EHR systems, Modmed Preferred and coding software (e.g., 3M, Optum).
Detail-oriented, results-driven, and able to adapt to a dynamic healthcare environment.
Preferred
Master’s degree is a plus.
